In What World Is Sonos Living In?
When Sonos stock went public in the summer of 2018, it was hard not to laugh. It was an ultimate sign of the times as an item for the wealthy was looking to raise funds and trying to prove they can a stable company for years ahead. Well it looks like they’re trying to still prove that they’re a company to keep an eye out in times of prosperity and poverty, with their latest announcement.

Sonos announced their latest product, the Sonos Arc, which will replace the Playbar and Paybase in their family of speakers. It’s designed for specifically large televisions and the audio company is claiming that those stuck at home will purchase their product to improve the audio quality during their daily binges. Do they think we’re that clueless? People are trying to cutback and are fearing about their finances, the last thing they’re doing when they’re cowering on their couch, trying to binge watch as a distraction, is thinking maybe life would be better if my speaker system was better. Unless your current speaker system broke, that is the only reason why you’d even think about purchasing any of Sonos’ products at this time unless money is no object to you. The Sonos Arc costs about $800, which is what their products typically cost, but is by no means a steal in terms of being a necessity that people will need to improve their lives.
If anything maybe people would buy a new Smart TV for all the binging, but would buy it through a major discount store like Walmart or Target. However, what money they have that’s used for any entertainment, will likely be for a combination of streaming platforms and maybe a program like Roku or Apple TV that combines all these services on one service. Sonos is a fantastic company. The quality of their products are absurdly good and seeing one of their items in someone’s house is a way to flex among your friends and neighbors. As long as they’re able to keep up against other major technology companies when it comes to quality and aesthetics, they’ll be fine. However, don’t buy their sales tactics by thinking the Sonos Arc or any of their products are actually worth it, during this time.
